Velo Ventures - Biking Adventures in Morocco - MTB & Road
Charity Fundraising
by Alistair Cope

This is a really important area of work for me and Velo Ventures.

I have over the years completed a number of fund raising rides & tours for various charities and my hope is to create a way for others to do the same and also benefit from the cultural experience that Morocco provides.

The High Atlas Traverse (hike/bike) in Morocco, provides the perfect week for a charity challenge.

The challenge combines hiking and biking and should be possible by most reasonably fit people with some mountain biking experience. The route is tough, but it's easy to miss the really hard technical sections if you want......... I do sometimes!

Velo Ventures is currently working with a number of charities and we might be able to work with one of your choice. You can use the challenge to donate all of the funds you raise to charity or you can raise a minimum target that will cover your tour costs as well. The best thing is to talk to us here at Velo Ventures and we'll do our best to set the tour up in a way that suits you best.

I am closely linked to The Prostate Cancer Charity and indeed work for them on a freelance basis. Usually this work involves promoting cycling events in the UK. However, you can ride for them in Morocco, just contact me for details.

We have just started to work with Education for All in Morocco. Very few girls from the rural communities of the High Atlas Mountains get the opportunity of continuing their education beyond primary school.

Colleges, mostly several kilometres away in larger towns, are not accessible to them for two main reasons:

1. Their parents cannot afford to pay for lodgings near colleges.

2. Their parents do not have the confidence in existing facilities near colleges to entrust their daughters to be away from home.

Education For All has been established to help provide the opportunity of a college education for girls from rural Moroccan communities. Its first project, opened in 2007, has been to facilitate access to secondary education for up to 36 girls from the remote villages of the High Atlas Mountains by building a boarding house for them in the town of Asni.

What better way could there be to say "thank you" to the people of the High Atlas, than by taking up the High Atlas Challenge for Education for All. Just give me a call or contact me via the contacts page.

Thank you for reading this page.

Cheerio for now
